JERSEY CITY, NJ(February 5, 2010)- The Saint Peter's College Peahens (9-13, 5-6 MAAC) defeated the Fairfield University Stags this evening, 55-41. Natasha Morris had the game high 17 points while Quiana Porter led all players with 13 rebounds.

The first half saw Saint Peter's run out to a 16-4 lead over the first ten and half minutes. After a Jynae Judson jumper with 3:16 left in the first half, the Peahens would take a 16 point lead, their largest of the game. Fairfield would make one of two free throw attempts with ten seconds remainin in the half to make the score 28-13 in favor of the Peahens at the break. The Stags shot just 20.8% from the field in the half including zero of seven from downtown. Saint Peter's shot 42.9% in the half and junior Jessica Coles scored all of her seven points in the first. Coming into this game, the Peahens were 5-3 when leading at the break.

Fairfield scored the first seven points of the second half, cutting their deficit to six. Charlene Riddick's lay up followed two successful free throw attempts from Judson, giving Saint Peter's another double digit lead. The Stags would again come back after two free throw attempts by their leading scorer Stephanie Geehan. With 14:35 remaining, Saint Peter's held a 32-26 lead.The play of the game was made by Cassandra Bryant. The senior's diving effort, after a loose ball, kept the ball in Saint Peter's possession. This followed an offensive rebound and two point basket just forty seconds earlier by Bryant. Fairfield would continue to mount a comeback as they trailed 47-41 with 1:26 remaining. Successful free throws and baskets in the final time put the game away for good as Saint Peter's won their second consecutive game.

This was the third time in eight tries that Saint Peter's followed up a win with another victory. Judson helped out with 12 points while stealing three. Nineteen of the fifty five Saint Peter's points would come by way of second chance opportunities. The score was only tied one time durin the game as Saint Peter's lead the rest of the way.

The Saint Peter's College Peahens return to action on Monday, February 8 when they host the Manhattan Jaspers at 7pm. This game will be the Pink Zone Game which supports Breast Cancer Awareness.
